I've noticed that whenever people say "you can't say that," or "of course, I can't say that," they don't really mean that they can't say something. What they mean is that if they say it, someone will complain.

Nobody actually stops them, they just don't like the consequences.

But ideas have consequences.

Their ideas maybe used to be mainstream, and passed unchallenged, but that's not the case anymore. They're in the minority, and they don't like it.

I think that's what they mean, anyway.

But it's a free country. If you're in the minority, say what you mean, be brave.

Just don't expect it to go unchalleneged.
