In Japan, $3 trillion is lost to the system that could previously hijack people's money at low interest rates to fund Japanese pork and the US dollar carry trade -- now the Japanese government will have to pay market rates. I have trouble imagining that the elimination of this giant slush fund will do anything less than increase pressure on credit risk spreads to more accurately price debt in global credit markets.
