The phrase "under God" was not inserted into the Constitution until 1954. Until 1954, School children were not requested to recite the phrase "under God" and the nation was none the worse for not having the phrase in the pledge.

I didnt raise the issue of where the judge was from, but other posters thought is was important. If they did think it was that important, they ought to at least get the facts right before going off on a rant. Enough said, I agree.
