He wasn't rich as he was growing up, but he was rich by the time he reached the White House. He was rich by the time he reached the Arkansas governorship too. Our gov't doesn't elect poor people to the highest state or federal leadership positions. That is the great myth of America, that you can get elected even if you are poor. You can't. You need money to fund a campaign. People don't give you money if you are starting with no money. They want to see a return on their investment, which means they want to see you have a decent chance to win. If you are poor, then forget it.
