Yes, batteries are definitely the week point, but progress is being made every year. All the majors have been working on this particular issue. Part of what made supply so small and prices so high in hybrids last year was a shortage of batteries. That will change, because there is money to be made.

As far as the economics of it all, it's definitely not what it needs to be in order to attract the masses, but the fringe is growing steadily and if oil prices stay high for a few more years, that fringe will become a decent minority and once you have a decent minority, you have staying power in a niche.

I'll do my part, because I can afford it and I want car companies like Toyota to be encouraged to continue the niche and take share away from U.S. companies like GM, because GM to me is as despicable as the oil companies and their tax breaks.
