Qwik,

I do not recall you complaining about McNealy's personality when the company's stock was skyrocketing.

I admit to wondering whether SUN's PR style might come across as a bit desperate, or that it might make conservative corporate bosses slightly nervous. But on balance I think they are right to yell loud enough to get quick attention both from IT managers and the general public. Scholarly dissertations in trade journals won't do it.

Sun knows they have to provide the technical arguments, but the priority is announce the current design advantage. And my suspicion is that SUN's partners and most neutral observors, including corporate bosses, quite enjoy hearing someone speak loudly and confidentally on these issues.
