Well, whatever one thinks of the war in Iraq, and I won't talk about that politically here - we now have 2 major expense items - Iraq and Katrina - and no way to pay for either except pulling out the US credit card and saying CHARGE! If we get another big thing, I'm not sure how we will pay for it. Oh we will pay, but not sure how the markets would react to 600 to 800 billion dollar deficits. I had thought maybe it's part of the big plan, run the US debt to 20 to 30 Trillion, then default - or let the Fed govt. devolve to just states, and we tell Europe and China and Japan "sorry, we can't pay, nice knowin you though..." But then we have the pesky problem of moving all of our production overseas, so how do we keep going then? Will be interesting to watch the next few months...
