In real time, perhaps there isn't. Going forward there definitely is. Get a chart of GDP versus SPX appreciation, the correlation is distinct. Moreover with Germany you're looking at a single data point. They have high entrenched unemployment ever since reunification, that sector of the population was not the engine for economic growth in the country. Which is distinctly different from what will happen in the US if 100,000 realtors and 100,000 mortgage brokers and whatever number of tradespeople find themselves on the streets in the next year. Apples and oranges, as it were.....
