Is this good or bad? Depends of your perspective. It depends on what you love about New Orleans, and this country. Bad things lead to good things... good things lead to bad things.

If it happens the way you suggest, than its bad. In fact, its always bad when they sanitize things. However, NO.......the things that make it special......the French Quarter, the Garden District, Uptown, Tulane etc are still intact. If what comes out of it is new housing in the ninth district, I think that's a good thing and will make NO stronger. It depends on how sophisticated the planners and developers are who will do the planning and design work. From what I understand, architecturally, New Orleanians are fairly savvy.......plus they tend to be fairly civic minded.

What is disgusting me is the lack of any fiscal responsibility expressed by Bush. You should seen him blow off reporters when they ask how all this rebuilding was going to get repaid. He thinks he's playing the generosity card, but in reality, he's looking like the rich spendthrift and dilettante he really is.

And then when he says the poverty comes from racism......it was just two years ago, he was trying to eliminate affirmative action. Frankly, I don't think his IQ is even average. I think had he been born to poor people, he would have been in special ed classes growing up.
