RR,

Grow or shrink seem to be the two options; I don't see much middle ground. Your firm seems to have found its steady growth pattern. That's great.

We grew in fits and starts for our first 2-3 years, but seem to have hit a big growth spurt/critical mass in the last 6-9 months. Our problem is that we specialize in a niche that isn't widely practiced; we need some more experienced help, and there really aren't any (or very few) to find that know our specialty. A good lawyer can learn it, but it takes time, and isn't obviously appealing to most. Of course, that's also the reason there is so much work to go around (relatively little competition in a growing practice area).

Hope things work out with that potential new client. Hey, I've found even if it doesn't, if you made a good impression, it pays dividends later.

I've found the same thing, and there is always the next opportunity right around the corner.
