Unless you lived in backwoods areas that has all changed now. I dont think people in the North realize the INCREDIBLE damage the War between the States caused the south. The south was TOTALLY RUINED. When I was a youngster you could STILL see cannon balls embedded in some of the railroad trestles in Atlanta. It took well over a 100 years for us to recover, but we finally have made it. Go to Atlanta today, you will find NOTHING like I used to see. I bet you will find this hard to believe but we actually had real CONFEDERATE MONEY still in existence when I was young. The Gulf Coast area was the last to rise to its former glory. Now, thanks to Katrina, it will likely become a showcase for the South in the next 10-15 years, and then our recovery will be complete. jdn
