I think Hillary's campaign theme just crystallized:

We are bipartisans. We share with George Bush and the minority of the Republicans who follow him, a vision of the super federal state and it's power to solve all our problems. The problem is, Mr. Bush's party is infested with people who want to bring back the liaison fare, cut throat, survival of the fittest, winner takes all world of the 19th century. His effectiveness is hampered because he must pander to this paleo-wing to stay in power. We on the other hand are ALL true believers.

All people of compassion now believe in cooperation at the highest levels. The Republicans only half way believe in it. We Democrats believe in it 100% heart and soul. Furthermore, we have been thinking about it and perfecting it for 3 generation.

So the choice is clear, the party of 19th century “freedom” or the party that’s united to cooperatively build the 21st century.

If I was a Bushian Statist, that pitch would sound pretty appealing.

It just seems all the political talking heads in their total an perfect ignorance of technology, systems and economics never got the purpose the US government as defined in the Constitution.

For the long term defense of the country, investments in infrastructure have always led to a stronger and more prosperous nation. The interstate highways are just one of many examples. Investing in the rebuilding of New Orleans and the Gulf areas is or will be for the most part a massive infrastructure investment. America and all Americans will be more prosperous for it's undertaking.

In addition the outlays will starve the federal budget. We now hear talk of delaying medicare drug benefits. What other done deals will we hear of.
