The number of Israeli companies operating in China rose by 96 to 731 in 2004, a 15% increase, compared with 2003, according to the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute. The Export Institute is launching an Israeli business center in Beijing and a forum for Israeli companies doing business in China.

The Export Institute said that the Israeli business center in China was a joint initiative between it and the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Labor. The center, the first of its type, will provide marketing and administrative services for Israeli exporters interested in penetrating the Chinese market. JPI, a Chinese company, will operate the center. JPI has extensive connections in China, experience in working with Israeli companies, and familiarity with both Chinese and Israeli business cultures.

The new forum is a new framework for supporting companies operating in China, or which wish to begin operating there.
