Schroeder will not lead the next cabinet in Germany. The outcome of this election is sad, however, because it proves the point of Germany being the ultimate status quo country. Nobody wants any changes and the majority of the population seems to believe that Germany can go on like this living way over their national income. Most likely right now seems to be a grand coalition between the CDU and SPD but for sure without Schroeder. Or it's not totally impossible that the FDP and Union could lure the green party over to join them provided that Fischer keeps his post as secretary of foreign affairs. No real winners tonight except on a party note by FDP and the former Communist Left Party. Taro
