Well, now that tech is coming back and Bush approval is so low I am a lot more optimistic. Bush can't do any more damage with approval ratings this low. He's a lame duck now (washington news is saying this) and we just have to wait it out.

Carter had worse challenges in the 70s- our companies didn't work. We had no economy really, no growth industries and the established industries like manufacturing were going offshore. Carter in order to be successful would have had to rebuild the economy and that took union busting and other reforms that only republicans could do in the 80s. Bush hasn't had to do this, all Bush inherited was a recession against a strong economic backdrop, and the realization that terrorism exists, even though we have an FBI/CIA construct that has been chartered to manage terrorism for years.

If Bush were a good president he would have started an itiative to get off oil. But he is the worst president ever so that isn't going to happen. No matter, the free market will solve the oil problem also.
