Economic and social liberalism are the way to go. Note that Americans use a weird meaning for the word "liberal".

Unfortunately, the democracies have become nations of bludgers over the decades as redistribution from producers to layabouts and government spivs has increased.

Capitalism and freedom with governments protecting commons, contracts and creditors is the way to run the show. Citizenship should be by way of a tradeable property right. I own my share of New Zealand and should be able to sell it to somebody and leave the country. But I can't, I'm a state serf, as are people around the world. Few seem to understand their relationship to the state.

They are like Uncle Tom slaves, owned by the state and disposable by the state. Happy to be slaves and even liking it better than the alternative of self-determination.

Thinking for oneself is a serious problem for a lot of people who can barely find their way home, let alone balance a chequebook and forget about analysing investment opportunities and other necessities of life.
