Liberal means freedom, capitalism etc in the traditional sense. Americans have inverted the meaning of the word for some reason to mean big government, regulation, lack of freedom, redistribution of taxes to bludgers.

Liberation, liberal, libertarian etc obviously have the ring of freedom about them. As King George II wrote "Let freedom reign" or ring, or something...but he had the right idea, even if his achievement in Iraq bears the same relationship to freedom as a naughty weekend with a prostitute does to marriage.

I am happy with the election result in NZ, with Act, the Liberal party, coming out with 2 seats and winning Epsom.

Words and meanings of words are slippery as eels. It's good to keep them straight.
