My thinking exactly. (Having witnessed the great Canadian success of integrating Quebec into Canada, and the subsequent effort to integrate Canada into Quebec, many U.S. citizens are a bit wary of what might result ;-)

Good info!

I personally think it could only benefit the States; and I think the Puerto Ricans sense that.

I am thinking of the fact that it has wonderful tourism and is a great getaway. I'm thinking of Hawaii where natives and imported Japanese worked coffee and pineapples while wealthy Americans created gated communities in Diamondhead.

I know it is a later time and the world has changed, but land is still the primary evidence of privacy, freedom, and power. And the best land always goes to the richest people--even if it sits where tectonic plates meet!

I was in the Caymans a year or two ago. They are independent but a dependency of the UK (if that makes any sense)! But I saw tremendous wealth there. I wonder what country the Land Owners were from? I think not Puerto Rico...

And what is it the Caymans do besides fantastic tourism. Money laundering, isn't it?!

The Americans should buy Puerto Rico--like they did Louisiana and Alaska! It is strategic, but it is a pain in the ass! I'll chip in a few bucks (which ain't a lot!).

Put the Navy Seals on San Juan--and pour a martini!

You've got a great Observatory there, btw--the Arecibo. You've probably seen it or your friends have mentioned it. What a mind boggling universe!

It appears that the largest source of funding for the Puerto Rican Territorial government is the refund of all federal income taxes paid by residents. Why would they give up a deal like that?
