I went DAX short this morning.

Re Siemens people saying "Du lieber Gott" to you - well, I dont know what they meant, I was not present. Right now their reason to say "Du lieber Gott" is "I'd never think they would DARE touch my department".

I would just chip in some points, which have not been mentioned so far:

4% of GDP is flowing to the east, without any indication of improving the situation. I'd guess it will take a long time, if not eternity.

The gap between haves and have-nots within Germany is increasing.

Productivity is increasing, so's the quality of education and some other important indicators. The sentiment is not among them.

Re government:the electorate trusts neither Schröder (dispossed switching to a more radical Linke Partei) nor Merkel - a lot of black switchers assumed black to be a home run, so they wanted to tell Angie they dont like her lipstick and gave the very important second vote to FDP. Schröder killed the idea of the black&red coalition right during the elephant round on Sunday evening and the remaining alternatives are pretty wild, like the Jamaica coalition ie Red&Yellow&Green. As opposed to T&T, that schröder killed - if I may use western Indies analogies and make Jay smile. The Jamaica alternative already got a nickname Bermuda triangle.

Which all means we will first have to wait for hell to freeze over.

Remember a cartoon during some reds convention: it showed the lower part of some pedestal - you knew right away it's the monument of Wili Brandt. There was a pair of shoes lying around there and little grey men were climbing in and out of them.
