We have medicare for the elderly, medicaid for the poor, the veterans administration, etc. - through these programs the government is already paying about 50% of the country's medical bill. Over time, the % has tended to creep up. We just got a medicare prescription bill with a Republican President and Congress. If we could eliminate the cost of medical malpractice insurance and "defensive medicine" - unneeded tests and treatments just to prevent lawsuits in case.. - how many billions could we save? Maybe we could then have discount health care providers.
