You should know the answer, we are "Draining the Swamp". When I hear of all these fanatics moving into Iraq thru Syria and other places, I rejoice. Now we have not only us, and our coalition forces, we have Iraqi's helping "drain the swamp". Better there than here. jdn

re: "Afghanistan makes sense, that's where OBL is, or at least near there. America, in battling the Soviets, helped turn the place into a quagmire of terror by abandoning the place."

The reason Afghanistan became a "quagmire of terror", is because President Clinton got the Sudan to expel bin Laden (not a bad thing), and he moved his operation to Afghanistan (a bad thing).

The United States did abandon Afghanistan - but it couldn't be helped. When the Soviets agreed to leave Afghanistan, part of the agreement (with the Soviets) was that the Americans would not send aid into the country (except thru non governmental groups like the Red Cross). Though the Soviets left Afghanistan, the government they installed fought on for a several years - and the Soviets didn't want the U.S. to continue supplying rebels.
