"You got no dunces on those freezing northern plains of yours? Gimme a break"

My comments were clearly in jest and were certainly not suggesting you are "dunces".

In any case, we often ask directions at a convenience store or gas station where such employees may not necessarily be, uh--well travelled. Besides, if you can get to the beer store and know where to buy new cultivator teeth--where else is there to go!? :-)

No matter--I have figured out the codes fairly well!

"Just go in the same direction past a couple of stops and turn right at the big set of lights", means:

There ARE no Stop Signs to stop at. There are 17 traffic control devices called "lights". On of them is where you are supposed to turn!

"Just come to the big curve in the road and keep to the right around the park", means:

The road you are on has no straight sections but is a series of infinite curves. Take whatever one you consider "big" without knowing in advance what size range the curves run to!

"Go up a few blocks and turn left at the chicken joint and follow it around to a big set of lights", means:

There is a chicken joint about 7 miles up the road. Don't miss it!

Once you know the argot, you pretty much got it made!
