Neolib, if India can buy gas for $1 from Iran, and Iran can buy nuclear energy for 50c, then India can buy nuclear energy for 50c and cut out Iran.

Illogical to build a pipeline to India to pay for nuclear power in Iran.

IIRC, India, despite not signing the NPT was elevated in the eyes of the US wrt to nuclear development this summer. I expect India to bring additional nuclear power online as a result of that deal. The deal was almost surely linked to Washington's dim view of the Iran pipeline deal.

So the USA reality is this: 1) Iran should not develop nuclear energy, it does not need it, 2) we don't want countries investing large amounts of $ with Iran, which might lead them to oppose US interests there, 3) we will help India increase its nuclear capabilities so that its needs for gas from Iran are decreased.

Hardly odd that Iran would differ on the above points.
