MacAurther wanted 600,000 troops for the occupation of Japan. That number was reduced to about 400,000. Then it dropped to 200,000 before it was raised to 300,000 in the early 50's.

Even today there are 40,000 Us troops in Japan. And Rumsfeld thinks he can control unruly Iraq with 140,000 troops?
