For mobile use, Brazil has already replaced a lot of oil with ethanol. The USA has done some of that too. Fuel cells haven't come into use yet and methanol will fuel those, or ethanol.

Then there are superconductor levitation and propulsion possibilities with photovoltaics providing all the energy.

Oil is so last century.
