Inflation vs Deflation, and how this time is different.
mish, what do you think of this?
kitco.com;

Interesting question.
I sent something similar to Heinz not to long ago.
His reaction without even reading it was:
"I am extremely skeptical of any argument that says it's different this time".

PS
I am not sure if he even later responded to what I sent him or not.

PPS
Some of the arguments that I have seen that say it's different this time are really saying "It's NOT different this time".

PPPS
This article seems to really be saying "It's different this time" and I do not buy it. I sincerely doubt Heinz does either.

My own first reaction is that I don't think that

(Asia 2 billion) * (purchasing power/Asian)

is anywhere near equal to

(Euro-American 0.6 billion) * (purchasing power/Euro-American)

I don't believe Asia can nor will pick up the slack in the near future.

Another reason, retrenching in Euro-American will have serious repercussions in the export dependent Asian economies and thus their ability to stimulate domestic demand will be dampened.
