"So? Hitler was elected Chancellor by the German Bundestag too." But he was elected to head a Socialist regime to the proposed benefit of the German Nation. Canada has one nominally "socialist" party, but it is really just watered down Liberalism. Canadians do not support or believe in "Socialism". Many of us are rednecks, but most of us practice what is called "Compassionate Capitalism". Many of us understand that what hurts one group affects the well-being of others. When we vote to champion certain policies being preached and promised--we do so out of a desire to make life better for ourselves and our children. We have worked hard to diminish hunger, poverty...and marginalized people. This has saved us billions on crime, prosecution, and incarceration. We want all bad people to be held accountable. We just don't think it is cost effective to encourage desperate behaviours such as drug use, theft, muggings, rape, and murder. No doubt, we could do much better. But I would rather pay a homeless bum for food and rent than to house him at a far greater cost financing him for a criminal PHD in some prison. "WTH does THAT mean?" It means (tongue in cheek) that parochial contentment is the most negative thing that can be said about our relationship. We are the same people. There is virtually NO greater difference (and probably less) than the myriad differences existent between your State policies. "You'd have to be SERIOUSLY STUPID to set up private practice in your country. So stupid that I would not allow a doc that stupid to treat me" Different doctors make more or less depending on specialty, etc. By "none of this is forced" I was referring to "We DO take a more collective approach to essential needs such as food, shelter, clothing, and health". This compassionate Capitalism has worked well for all parties. One does not have to be a FOOL to be a doctor in Canada. WE have some of the best doctors in the world. Many doctors have left here to make a higher wage elsewhere. FINE! But this does not mean they are better doctors!! Unless you believe that greed equates to better! And there is no reason to consider dedicated people "fools". Wage is not everything. MOST doctors make enough to eat off one plate and sleep in one bed.
