We were hearing a lot of bad news about Miss. We were just starting to put people there. Skip and Ruby were going over the day we left. We had heard there was nobody even left to help in Waveland. Miss is La without news coverage; nor FEMA or the ARC, of course. That went without saying. But, one of these daze, da Shrub will party on the porch of Trent Lott's new mansion. Life is good. There are tent cities for the homeless set up there. They need a tent to start with and then, well you know,everything.Wireless internet and volunteers with laptops so they can sign up for Fema, food stamps, housing, unemployment, MEDICAL CARE, what else? Volunteers to take supplies to people without cars who are still in their apts. I think coolers could be used by the tent city residents not only for cooling but also for storage and as a chair. On the beach, citizens are poking through debris looking for dead bodies. Cars sunk in mud are now halfway buried in mud dried and turned to dirt. No communications available at all. A black hole. Hot meals are being provided by a mobile kitchen set up by people affiliated with the Rainbow Gathering. "Diamond Dave", a beat poet from Haight Ashbury in San Francisco is serving as our communications messenger to update on Waveland. He is traveling back and forth Waveland to Covington. Only way to communicate. Wednesday we sent suitcases and coolers for storage. They need food, first of all and tarps, cots, well again, everything Go to Wavelend and set up tent. Play with the kids. Share your love with them and help them get through the horror they have been through. Get your preferential option for the poor and your witness for peace and your liberal politics and your liberation theology and your voluntary simplicity and your middle class guilt and your accompaniment going.
