Here's Kurt Wulff's view on US trusts -

mcdep.com

I currently have CRT, HGT, and some SJT
Roughly 3:3:2 ratio.

The value of US trusts is about 60% of the value of my Canadian trusts. I have a lot in Energy Split, because of the leverage.

Why CRT, HGT, and SJT ?

1) Energy trusts have both long term value and are a good way
of capturing price spikes which may not move E&Ps.

2) I expect North American natural gas to do better than energy. HGT, CRT, and SJT are >90% NG.

3) I also have lots of Canadian trusts. One reason I like these US trusts is prodcution is New Mexico, Oklahoma, etc. close to where the Hurricane caused shortages will be, so there is a chance of getting higher prices than near Canada. I expect the pipeline guys will get their slice of the pie.

4) IF the NG shortage is extreme, Canada may restict or tax exports.

5) Some of the Canadian trusts have C$ debt, and all have C$ expenses. A stronger Canadian dollar could erode that.

6) There are two other dangers. Canada doing something politically funny, as part of their "let's stick Alberta with the bill for everything policy"

The BIG REASON -

7) >>>>>The other, far greater danger would be enthusiasm, leading to huge over payment for energy resources. Look at the merger with Acclaim, of what Norsk Hydro is paying for Spiniker.

I own Acclaim, so I benefit...I just don't want to own the buyer.

Ask for the Norsk Hydro SPK deal - I thought Norwegians were smart. The time to buy was LAST year.

The US royalty trusts will slowly liquidate into MY POCKET.
