Land is not the problem. There's plenty of land in beautiful, sunny California as well. You can drive anywhere in the US, even outside of Manhattan, and see tons of land. Unless you're a libertarian who actually is going to live off the grid (as if) you need massive infrastructure to make the land viable for Americans: schools, shops, jobs, etc. Now if people were willing to live the hunter-gatherer existence, land wouldn't be an issue. As it is, everyone wants to live in the same zip codes as everyone else. We're not tigers and eagles we're sheep and we cluster.
