Watching my son, I think the whole approach has changed regarding employers. His generation doesn't want promises of future benefits. They want it now, and they want to control it. They also are so much more mobile, staying only a couple of years in each job. it is such a different environment now, rambi...having so many corporations (private and public) transitioned from defined benefits to personal retirement accounts (portable) my son is older than yours but he has the same attitude about controlling his own retirement funds....one objection he has has been the limited choices his company offered wrt investment vehicles for his 401K... but at least he has some diversification and portability... i really wish you all the best on the airline plan you currently have....i do have concerns about what happens if the last major legacy carrier (american) goes the bankruptcy route... very sad state of affairs when bankruptcy is the means to remain competitive (tiny grub)
