I suspect history will show that 9/11 triggered a form of mass paranoia within America. George Bush wanted Saddam out and figured it would be a walk in the park for our military, so he fed that paranoia with all sorts of misrepresented intelligence.

I will never forget two things. 1) The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs saying a year or so before the invasion that Saddam wasn't a threat to anyone (He was effectively canned after that) and 2) watching Powell's presentation before the UN Security council and thinking "That's it? Were going to war based on a drawing of a mobile chem lab?"
