In the same line of thought, all European pols who cast themselves as pro-Bush evangelists --namely, Angela Merkel, Nicolas Sarkozy, José Maria Aznar, Philip Dewinter, Gianfranco Fini,...-- are, at the same time, vehemently opposed to Turkey joining the European Union... How come? Do they merely blurt out loud what the US administration secretly smiles on? Gus

Correction: Oops! I was wrong about Signor Fini --sounds like he's the only right-wing, pro-Bush, pro-Israel leader who openly supports Turkey's EU bid.... Asked whether Turkey should be allowed into the EU, Mr. Fini said “absolutely, but with some caution”. He warned that “before worrying about the consequences of Turkey's entry in the EU, let's think of the consequences if Turkey does not enter the EU. We hand over Turkey to Islamic fundamentalism”. esteri.it
