Hello Hawk. I've mentioned before that in 1988 my BP Oil colleague and I discussed the price of oil, oil company profits and politics. My thought was that the best idea was a bullet through the middle east. It was not a surprise that Glaspie and co conjured a conflict which has lasted 15 years, will continue for at least a few more years and has resulted in high oil prices and vast profits for producers.

Check out BP's share price and profits since 1990. Not to mention Exxon, Halliburton, and many others. A lot of people like expensive oil and competitors out of business.

<This country is like any other.. Power and money (sometimes interchangable).. And there is a massive struggle underway to see who's going to have dominance over the only major oil producer in the region NOT facing a peak in their oil production. Iraq can pump a lot of oil, and likely dominate the entire regional economy, were they to get their oil production up to Saudi or Iranian standards.

And of course, those two countries don't have any interest in seeing that occur.

Who benefits from the fighting? Watch the dollars and we can see who is in favour of fighting. Add Islamic Jihad, who are not fighting so much for dollars as power, [not that they are a lot different] and it's a witch's cauldron.

The answer to who benefits is usually a good answer for why things are happening.
