Frankly, there are no economics in oil production under $50 a barrel. In economic terms, I think $50 a barrel is the minimum price at which oil begins to reflect it's true social cost - production costs, variable costs, and environmental costs. With oil priced near it's full social cost, there are obvious alternatives as witnessed by Fords aggressive plans to install electric engines to run from battery power. If you want a real policy shocker, I think we should raise the driving age for all kids from 16 to 18. I would really like to keep all high school kids off the road until they can pay for themselves once they get outta college. Since they have no ability to pay any part of their driving costs at 16, they should not have the right to drive.
