Have you seen LA? It's a sprawl that keeps going and going and, heck, going. Some 'commuters' in LA (and other parts of the country) now 'commute' 2,3,4,5 hours...each way. Some bedroom communities run buses so that people can sleep, eat and probably shave while they commute.

This isn't rational plus it will be unaffordable if gasoline prices stay high.

People want a two story home with a driveway and a backyard but, as our population ages, I'll bet that people will be willing to trade that in for a condo or apartment in exchange for services and activities they can walk to.

The problem still isn't one of land, it's one of infrastructure. Even those close in burbs have nasty traffic jams...have you seen LA lately?

We're sheep, we're 6.5 billion sheep all wanting the same life, usually the one we're sold in the media. If we weren't sheep, we wouldn't be having all of these problems although we would probably invent new ones :).
