I would like to feel sorry for those seniors but when it comes right down to it, most are getting what they deserve. Let me give you an example.

Many seniors are living in houses they own outrught and have lived in for over 30 years. Many of those homes are uninsulated or very poorly insulated. I approached one of my wifes older coworkers last year as she was getting ready to retire, and suggested she could save a lot of money insulating her home. I showed her our bill, which was half of hers even though her house was much smaller, and explained that it would pay for itself in under two years in her case. Then she would be saving over a thousand dollars every winter from then on. She gave the classic response: "I don't have the money right now". She of course hasn't had the money for 30 years, and never will for something as ridiculous as insulation. I suggested she take out a home equity loan. She said no way because her home was her retirement nest egg. I gave up in disgust.

MOST of those people get what they deserve and it's hard for me to feel sorry for them.
