Ish,

<Some times you don't want the worries of a first home. Our home is 30 years old and we have been doing a lot of repair this year. Real pain in the ass.>

Indeed it is, ours is a 66 year old English style reddish, orange, beige brick with plaster on metal lathe and a slate roof. I did have some repairs made on the roof just about two weeks ago so that part of the roof I hope I need not worry about, but it always seems to be something little or big. I said the last time I had it painted inside would be the last I'd do, but if we live another five or so years I will do that again unless we sell and move to a smaller home. When thinking about that I think I'd rather sell and allow for painting after we move out. That was a nightmare living amongst a painting crew of five and making them fix everything they broke. Came highly recommended from those references that had used them to paint their homes. They painted well, but were clumsy handling sconces, chandeliers, paintings and an antique wall clock. That had to cut into the contractor's profit, but he had no choice as I put that in the contract before I would sign it and he did agee to it.

When I was much younger I used to paint inside myself and grew up painting with my Mother. She taught me to varnish floors when I was very young and I grew up loving to paint. Now, don't care for it much so that is something I left behind when I got old. Did teach my own daughters and they both enjoy painting too and have offered to come over and paint or help me paint. My oldest loves to paint with enamel and has really gotten good at it and did her kitchen cabinets and they really looked professional. I think her preparation is her secret and does pay attention to that. My Mom lived by seasons and she always painted the walls and added new curtains and spreads for the season each year. She even did that up into her older age, but I did not inherit her enthusiasm for that. I would go to school and when I came home everything was changed. She was full of surprises so many times, but I usually loved what she did.
