Or they are used to deter people , or kill animals, or put wholes in targets, or to serve as the center piece for historical exhibits. There are other less common uses besides these. Sometimes when they are used to kill people they save a lot more people then they kill. The primary action being defensive not murderous. Your right though, they aren't very useful in stirring pasta and you usually wouldn't want to use them as bookends. Tim
