I read, over the years, stuff by his defenders trying to make him out to be the Batman, doing it all for the good of society. Those same posters often do the same strangely in defending hedge funds or naked shorting. One in particular was arguing basically that if they could do this to him, they could do it to all who post on a message board. That's BS - quite frankly. As far as manipulation in the markets, I'm all for greater enforcement against manipulation. Nobody likes to see people go to jail but the guy used to laugh at others who were in the same positon as he is in now. I certainly feel bad for him and his family and would not pile on. I think bringing his defense to a message board is not a smart move, legally or otherwise, BWTFDIK. The TYCO, Enron, etc., guys clearly are bigger menaces to society and their unmitigated gall at raping shareholders, as well as the public and the nation, would likely get the death sentence in many nations, perhaps even China, up until recently. We don't have the resources or the will to stop all manipulation so the government makes a showcase of big names and those who put themselves out. For better or worse, he had made a name for himself. His style was in your face and to laugh at others who went against him or his picks. To some extent, he gave the impression that he was above the fray, above the manipulation and above the law. It is not surprising that he became a target of the justice system. Given his history, one wonders why he didn't just take his obvious stock trading abilities and just be satisfied making a few million a year. Knowing many people who have to "live on the edge," I know he is not alone either where he was in the past or where he will be in the future. The jury saw that nothing justifies extortion and taking government information for one's own purposes and trading on it. Many have posted about how stupid the jury was or rather how they lacked knowledge of the inner workings of the markets. The system works and they showed it by taking it down the basics. Extortion and taking from government sources does not make one a great trader.
