The pilot who landed the plane: Pilot shows grit, wants no glory after tense L.A. landing

Friday, September 23, 2005

(09-23) 23:07 PDT Raleigh, N.C. (AP) --

The JetBlue pilot who landed an airliner with a crippled nose wheel at Los Angeles International Airport while TV broadcast the potential disaster is rejecting offers to tell his story.

Two days after his smooth touchdown, Scott Burke, 46, didn't answer the phone or the bell Friday at his tidy brick house in a relatively new neighborhood in north Raleigh. TV reporters had wedged business cards in the door.

Burke asked friends and family members not to talk about his personal life; his wife, Barbara; or their beagle, Beauregard.
