I made it out this morning, leaving houston this morning at 11'ish and arriving north of Austin 4'ish, stopping along the way to have a foot long subway sandwich, using secondary highway, 90 alternative, 36 north, 79 south, to the north of Austin, instead of the usual 290.

Very light traffic, hitting 80 mph when between small towns. They told everyone to stay put this morning, should not go anywhere after 1pm.

I took the "contrarian" view of what they advised people to do. I took the gamble, may be I lucked out.

I fully understand they cannot advise people to leave even on Friday.

Looks good for Houston, it weakens a bit and landfalls to the east. Bad for Beaumont, visited their energy museum about a year ago.

Hope the damages to human life to be minimal.
