A lot of people would --- flat rate systems are beginning to sweep the world (even formerly Communist countries are rolling them out), and everywhere they have been introduced thus far, revenue to the government has gone up... tax compliance has gone up... the costs associated with tax compliance have gone down... and, hopefully, the efficiency of the economies has gone up, as forests of complicated loopholes and 'special tax preference items' have been removed from the national codes. Only the politicians (bought and paid for, I'd imagine) and special interests who benefit from special favors in our current, complicated mess of a system, are opposed.
