I guess dumping all of your aromatics into gasoline is an option refiners don't have today. But I wonder how many refiners, other than Unocal, ever chose that option.

We used to call Unocal gasoline "Hartley's Stink Juice".

The only reason Unocal made low-quality gasoline like that was because Fred Hartley was too cheap to invest additional money in their refineries.

After Hartley retired, Unocal sold their junk-bin refineries to Tosco.
