"South Texas is going into the post-hurricane black hole."

Minor correction. It is South East Texas. South Texas would be Brownsville and Corpus. Totally different culture.

Glad you made that correction.

It won't be fine. Ok, they did manage to evacuate a lot of people. My parent's house(who happen to be in OK on a totally unrelated event) is at an elevation of 26 feet according to Google Earth. Now they are on the north end of Beaumont, the south end will be lower. Especially any part that is close to the Neches. Port Arthur, Winnie, Port Neches, Nederland, Orange, the Groves, Vidor, Bridge City, etc. are much, much worse.

Those are some of the areas that they are saying will get the worst of it along with Lake Charles..........Orange, Bridge City, and the Groves I think.

But there are a lot of refineries and chemical plants through out that area. South East Texas holds a lot of people, but mainly in smaller towns. Given the response to Katrina, I suspect that many of those poor suckers will be ignored while the photo op candidates will be serviced to the hilt.

This sucks so bad.

Yup. Its the worst. However, I wonder how many photo ops there will be after Bush's exchange with the reporter today. The press is pulling out all the stops when it comes to Bush.

In the meantime, it looks like Houston will miss the worst of it.

Sorry about the South Texas thing... didn't mean to insult any local sensibilities.

Any word on the chemical plants? One worry that wasn't much discussed in the press is the toxic chemicals... if one of those plants is breached, with 120 mph winds, who knows what happens?
