I think the stock market is going to soar next week.

Rita is fizzling out and looks like no major damage to oil and gas.

Quarter end markups are coming and too many shorts pressed their bets last week.

I wouldn't be surprised to see new highs on many indices.

It does have some similarities to that year. If long term interest rates backed up a couple hundred basis points that would do it.. But for now rates are way too low. Inverting the curve hurts the real economy more than housing. Are we close to Japan and China bailing on supporting our mounting deficits or are we going into recession in a couple of quarters?

That is exactly what happened in late 1973 -- year one of the worst bear since the 1930s. Market PEAKED in October and plunged during November-December.


FH, I'm looking for a monthly or weekly chart of the stock market during 1973-74. By any chance do you have a link?
