Ah, the WSJ's position in the political cultural wars. The editorial page is hardly classical liberal. I don't think the classical liberal types would have joined the cultural wars with quite such vigor as Gigot has. I don't know which "classical" liberal type you have in mind, but I can't imagine very many of them favoring such know nothing ventures as intelligent design, enforced pregnancy (pro-choice would be the classic liberal position on just about anything), sex in the bedroom (otherwise known as the gay issue), etc.

As for the rest of the paper, it has, in my view, the best investigative journalism staff in the country, outside the staff that goes under the name of Seymour Hersh. It's political commentary is sort of right wing media stuff. John Harwood is quite good if on the conservative side.

But the WSJ is not trying to put out the same kind of paper as the NYTimes and the Washington Post.
