Never heard of the ground squirrel problem but with the 2+billion the liberals wasted on the firearm registry (which was supposed to cost 100 million) maybe some guns got tossed. Less farmers with 22's keeping the squirrels under control maybe?

Put the heat on your closest Liberal MP that is more effective than bugging the Ottawa boys.

"the loss in trust units is $8 billion or more". I'm sorry I have to revisit this question, but the fact remains that not one dollar has been "lost". The market has no mechanism for creating or destroying dollars. It obeys a conservation law as absolute as those of physics. Dollars into the market equal dollars leaving the market (some leave in the pockets of brokers as commissions). If you follow the money, as opposed to looking at quotes, you will see why this is so.

Like you, I'm a Canadian and I vote. But I really am not sure what to say to Mr. Goodale or Martin either. Is double taxation fair? Probably not. But I do know that the government spends too few dollars on education, health, scientific research. There is no massive program to help immigrants and aboriginals and underprivileged folk generally, teach them English, teach them trades etc. And there should be such an effort. So the government needs more dollars to accomplish that. Only taxes bring in major amounts of money.
Another thing. If the trust structure vanishes would Peyto or Canadian Oil Sands lose their value? Are they incapable of existing as regular companies. Not too likely, eh? They are solid enterprises.
The sky isn't falling. Meanwhile I'm happily using the monthly DRIP on the above two trusts, believing that all will be well.
