Read the NPR. Now true, it doesn't override the Posse Comitatus, but that is a different issue. Or, at least, shouldn't be. Taking complete police control should be a different issue from rendering aid. A government that requires that as a minimum is one that gets certain labels.

Honestly, I'm not an attorney; perhaps you are. I base my remarks on statements by people more knowledgeable than me on the subject.

I have a feeling, however, that the same crew who are bitching about the Patriot Act will be raising hell if any circumvention of the Posse Comitatus is planned.

I don't have a problem with it, personally -- adequate safeguards can certainly be established.

It can be seen that the locals in Texas did a much better job; however, there are still problems, there are still people without power, and there was still destruction. The difference is the flood.

If one looks at the history of serious floods in the United States, e.g., the '27 flood or the '93 flood, it is clear that there is very little that can be done in a fast manner. We've argued about the food/water drops for the Dome and the CC; but really, there is very little that could have been done more quickly than it was.

In the end I believe it will be shown that there are relatively few things that could have reasonably been done in these circumstances to improve the outcome. Hell, I believed, as the mayor did, there would be 10,000 deaths associated with this storm. That we're looking at a small fraction of that ought to be cause for celebration, in spite of the fact that there are some people still living in shelters.
