"i'm just average, common too, i'm just like him and the same as you. ain't no use to talk to me, it's just the same as talkin' to you" -dylan but if you don't understand that, it makes you want to chase after the ego in bodily form and worship it and beg it for more information and more episodes of divine expression. it confuses the hell out of the poor bastage doing the expressing because he damn sure knows his ego-self is NOT the messiah and he wonders what the crowds are doing bowing at his feet and begging for direction. if you just listen to the words, the music and the feelings and forget about the ego or embodiment of the individual artist then you begin to understand how the divine essence of the universe is expressed through ALL living things (and the non-living as well). the song at the end of the movie drives that point home... ...LIKE A HAMMER. Lay Down Your Weary Tune by Bob Dylan Lay down your weary tune, lay down, Lay down the song you strum, And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum. Struck by the sounds before the sun, I knew the night had gone. The morning breeze like a bugle blew Against the drums of dawn. Lay down your weary tune, lay down, Lay down the song you strum, And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum. The ocean wild like an organ played, The seaweed wove its strands. The crashin' waves like cymbals clashed Against the rocks and sands. Lay down your weary tune, lay down, Lay down the song you strum, And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum. I stood unwound beneath the skies And clouds unbound by laws. The cryin' rain like a trumpet sang And asked for no applause. Lay down your weary tune, lay down, Lay down the song you strum, And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum. The last of leaves fell from the trees And clung to a new love's breast. The branches bare like a banjo played To the winds that listened best. I gazed down in the river's mirror And watched its winding strum. The water smooth ran like a hymn And like a harp did hum. Lay down your weary tune, lay down, Lay down the song you strum, And rest yourself 'neath the strength of strings No voice can hope to hum.
